Week in Training May 3, 2020

This week's long run went very poorly. Due to travel plans, I ended up running on a section of the Colorado Trail at around 9000 feet. The run started off fairly well, but after six or seven kilometers, I started having major issues with being lightheaded, nauseous, and with stomach cramps. The remaining 7 kilometers were absolutely no fun and included way more walking than running.

I really don't know what caused the run to go so poorly. I didn't have any major changes in my diet for the 24 hours before the run, I was well hydrated, I had a gel when I was about 50 minutes into the run, and I was feeling normal at the beginning of the run. My best guess is that I underestimated how much the altitude was going to affect me and pushed myself too hard in the initial hour of the run.

Overall stats for the week are:

  • Total Distance: 24.3 km

  • Total Time: 3 hr 30 min

  • Elevation Gain: 417 m
